The Leap Learner

Who your child becomes here,
not what your child memorises.

L

Learn with Love

Your child learns in a classroom where curiosity is welcomed, not interrupted. When they wonder aloud, ask why, or take a different path, that curiosity becomes part of the learning.

What this looks like

Every child is encouraged to paste one question on the Question Wall, in their own handwriting, and it stays there until it is answered or retired.

E

Evolve with Empathy

Your child practises kindness, compassion and respect for other people as a skill, not a mood. Disagreeing well is taught directly: hear the argument, restate it, then say where you differ.

What this looks like

In discussion, a child who wants to disagree first says back what the other child said, in their own words and then they state where they differ.

A

Aspire with Awareness

Your child dreams at full size while staying mindful of what a plan costs and who it affects. Ambition is welcome here; ambition that has not been checked against reality is sent back for another draft.

What this looks like

Before a group project starts, children name what could go wrong and who else it touches, and that list is read again on the day they present.

P

Progress with Purpose

Your child sets a clear goal, knows what progress looks like, and comes back to see how far they’ve moved. We measure growth against their own previous work—so improvement is visible, valued, and motivating.

What this looks like

Each term, your child writes one goal in their own words. At the end of the term, they look back at it with their teacher and you, reflecting on what changed and what comes next.

THE LEAP LEARNER’S JOURNEY

Six stages of growth, from curious beginnings to confident independence.

The journey unfolds across your child’s years at The Leap—not from one term to the next.
01

Starting with Curiosity

Your child arrives with what they already know—and a whole world of questions. We build from there, turning curiosity into the confidence to explore and learn.

02

Learn with Love

A foundation of care, and the habit of asking without hesitating.

03

Evolve with Empathy

Kindness and respect become how a child works, not only how a child feels.

04

Aspire with Awareness

Bigger plans, checked against what they cost and whom they touch.

05

Progress with Purpose

Goals a child sets, measures, and returns to at the end of term.

06

Holistic Growth

A child who has become fully themselves with all the competencies and values

What we don't do

Four things this school refuses.

No rote drilling

Your child will not chant tables until the sound sticks without the sense. Repetition has a place, and that place is short, spaced practice with materials on the desk.

Instead: a child is counted as knowing seven eights when they can show why it lands where it does.

No ranking children against each other

No class rank, no merit list read out at assembly, no percentile beside a child's name. A ten-year-old learns very little from finding out they are fourteenth.

Instead: Every report talks about their standing independently on that particular aspect. The rating on a child’s work can be compared to the same child’s work in the last term.

No homework measured by volume

Nothing is set because a certain number of pages ought to be filled. Work goes home when it needs a quiet table, a family member to interview, or a night to settle.

No handing over an answer a child could reach

A teacher's first response to a question is another question, or the place to look. This is slower than telling, and on some mornings it is genuinely frustrating for everyone in the room.

Instead: when a child is stuck past the point where struggling teaches anything, they are told plainly, and then asked to explain it back.
